A wood look that’s built to take a beating

Laminate floors use a detailed printed wood layer under a tough, clear top layer. The result looks like real wood, but it resists scratches, dents, and fading better than many other floors.

It’s a smart pick for living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, and stairs, especially in homes with kids, pets, and busy schedules. Many newer laminate lines also resist water better than older products.

Why families choose laminate

Tough on scratches

A hard top layer holds up to furniture, toys, and pet claws better than most wood floors.

Realistic wood looks

Embossed textures follow the printed grain, so the boards look and feel like wood.

Budget-friendly

Laminate usually costs less than hardwood, which leaves room in the budget for the rest of the project.

Quick to install

Most laminate clicks together as a floating floor, which keeps installation fast and clean.

Prep and acclimate

Laminate needs time to adjust to your home’s temperature and humidity. We check that the subfloor is flat, clean, and dry and use the right underlayment for it.

Install and trim

We click the planks into place, add trim and transitions, and clean up.

What to look for in laminate

Two laminate floors can look alike and perform very differently. These two details matter most.

Water resistance

Newer laminate lines use sealed edges and water-resistant cores that give you more time to wipe up spills.

Best for: kitchens and entryways that see the odd spill.

Thickness and texture

Thicker planks, around 10 to 12 mm, feel more solid underfoot. Embossed textures add grip and hide everyday wear.

Best for: living areas where comfort and looks matter.

Laminate in San Antonio homes: what to know

Over concrete slabs

Laminate floats over slabs on a moisture barrier underlayment, which protects the core from moisture coming up through the concrete.

Wet areas

Even water-resistant laminate isn’t the best choice for full bathrooms or laundry rooms. We’ll point you to luxury vinyl or tile for those spaces.

Stairs

Laminate works on stairs with matching stair nose pieces. See stair flooring and baseboards.

Noise

A quality underlayment cuts down on the hollow sound floating floors can make.

Laminate flooring questions

Is laminate waterproof?

Most laminate is water-resistant, not waterproof. Newer lines handle spills well if you wipe them up. For bathrooms and laundry rooms, luxury vinyl is the safer choice.

Is laminate or luxury vinyl better?

It depends on the room. Laminate has a harder, more scratch-resistant surface and a natural wood feel. Luxury vinyl handles water better. Many homes use laminate in living areas and vinyl in wet rooms.

Can laminate go on stairs?

Yes. Laminate works on stairs with a stair nose piece on each step for a clean, safe edge.

How long does laminate flooring last?

A quality laminate floor often lasts 15 to 25 years in a home, depending on the quality of the flooring and how much traffic it sees.

Can laminate be installed over my old floor?

Sometimes. Laminate can often float over flat vinyl, tile, or concrete, but it depends on the condition of the existing floor and the subfloor. Carpet needs to come up first. We’ll tell you what your floor needs.

How much does laminate flooring cost?

The price depends on the product and the size of your space. Visit the showroom or call (210) 509-8551 for a free quote.
